Hi! I’m Heather. Thanks for stopping by my little piece of the internet, She Runs on Greens.
I am an athlete, lover of plant-based foods, juice bar owner, and new mom. In my past life, I was a “big law” lawyer in Manhattan, but now I live in my hometown of Boston, MA with my husband and our morkie. This August, we welcomed a baby boy into our family!
On this site, I document my efforts at juggling all of the things that make this crazy life of mine so much fun. My goal is to help inspire others to live the kind of life that they are excited about – whatever that looks like. Along the way, I share not only what’s worked (and not worked) for me, but also some of what I’ve learned that I’ve found helpful in my efforts to create my best life.
Food (mostly plant-based), fitness and adventure have always been huge parts of my life and feature prominently here. For the last three years, the role of small business owner has also been a central component to my identify, and I’ll write not only about that, but also about transitioning to motherhood while keeping a multi-location food business running smoothly.
I have been a vegetarian since I was 10, and I eat mostly plants. I am a strong believer that we’d all be a little happier and a little healthier if we made more room for greens in our lives. I think avocado was sent directly from heaven, eat more bananas than I care to admit, and could live happily off of green juices and smoothie bowls – sometimes, I do. I am a strong believer in eating lots of greens. I have a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and I completed Matthew Kenney and Brendan Brazier’s plant-based course Sports Nutrition.
I like to run. A lot. I’ve run 12 marathons, one 50 mile ultramarathon, and many shorter races. But my love of a good sweat doesn’t stop there. I love cycling (in spin class and on the road), yoga, and lifting, too.
I love my job. A lot. I own and run Thirst Juice Co., a vegan and gluten-free juice and smoothie bar with locations in Boston’s financial district and in the nearby suburb of Wellesley. I get to work with a team of the best people I’ve ever met, serving awesome food and drinks to the coolest customers around. Every day we get to help people be healthier, stronger, and happier. It is simply an honor. In the years since I founded Thirst, I’ve learned a lot about running a business. I still have tons more to learn, and I share some of what I know – and some of what I’m learning – with you here.
